Alarm monitoring explained
How does alarm monitoring work?
Once your alarm activates:
- signal sent to our Monitoring Control Centre, day and night
- monitoring agents contact you or your keyholders
- monitoring agents ask you (or your keyholders) for verification word
- if verification word is not given (or is incorrect) relevant emergency services will be called.
A keyholder’s role in the protection of your home or business is important as they must be nominated by you (minimum of two, maximum of four)
- be able to attend your property within 30 minutes of the alarm being activated
- have a set of keys to your property
- know, from day of installation, how to operate your alarm system
- be contactable by mobile or landline phone
- know your alarm code and your verification word.
You can nominate yourself as a keyholder, on a mobile or work number, if you satisfy the criteria above.
Your verification word is not your alarm code but is a memorable word which identifies you and your keyholders as the genuine users of your system.
We will always ask you for your verification word when your alarm activates as well as other occasions, when it will be necessary, for security reasons – so choose a word that you will remember easily e.g. a child’s name, your favourite holiday destination, your mother’s maiden name.
Your verification word plays an important role in the protection of your household or your business. Failure to state your verification word may affect the safety we can provide for you and may also result in a false despatch of the emergency services.
